Every day I am bombarded with conflicting nutrition advice from experts, the media, and well-meaning friends.

There are so many diets to choose from, and experts claiming a single diet is the ideal way to eat. The reality: nutrition is bio-individual. You have different genetics and life exposures that impact your health and the nutrients your body needs to thrive.

According to the Nutritional Therapy Association where I received my training as a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, there are 6 nutritional foundations critical to symptom-free good health.

 1.  Whole Food Nutrition: REAL FOOD BUILDS REAL HEALTH.  Focus on the nutrients, not the calories.  Nutrient-dense whole foods are the foundation of optimal health.

 2.  Digestion: YOU ARE WHAT YOU ABSORB.  If you can’t break down and absorb the nutrients, you can’t benefit from them.

 3.  Blood Sugar Regulation: WHAT GOES UP, MUST COME DOWN.  Stable blood sugar levels provide consistent energy.

 4.  Fatty Acid Balance: FATS ARE FRIENDS.  Beneficial fats = stable energy, optimal brain function, healthy cells, hormone balance, and satiety.

 5.  Mineral Balance: THE BODY’S SPARK PLUGS. Minerals initiate actions in the body, build bones and balance hormones.

 6.  Hydration: WATER IS LIFE. LIFE IS WATER. It makes up ≈ 60% of the body and over 90% of the population is chronically dehydrated.
